When the fire service serves a prohibition notice on a residential building, nobody sleeps there until it's put right. That was the call we took on this Leeds building: the existing fire alarm wasn't fit for purpose, the notice was in force, and every day empty was a day of displaced residents and mounting cost.
We were on site within 24 hours of the block manager's call. The survey confirmed the system needed replacing rather than repairing, so we mobilised straight into the works: a new Advanced control panel, 40 new detection and alarm devices across the building, and the cabling and containment to serve them — installed in continuous shifts by our Leeds-based team.
Thirty-six hours after starting, the system was installed, tested, commissioned and certificated to BS 5839 — the documentation the responsible person needed to have the prohibition lifted. Residents moved back in.
